Located on the grounds of the LDS Motion Picture Studio, the FSSS is the portion of the Media Arts Department’s presence at the MPS. The FSSS houses the Advanced Equipment Checkout. The FSSS supports advanced non-fiction and fiction projects.

Access to the FSSS and MPS lot requires advanced clearance given in MAL Access.

The resources found at the FSSS are typically reserved for those participating in advanced production and approved practice exercises. Anyone wishing to use resources found at the FSSS must first get cleared through an Access meeting.

Access Procedures

To get approval to use anything found at the FSSS you must make sure that you:
1) Are qualified
2) Submit an Access request in a timely manner (at least 48 hours before the meeting)
3) Get approval from the Access meeting
4) Schedule a time with the Area Supervisor to pick up the equipment.

Procedures

While at the FSSS please treat all equipment with care. You will be held responsible for any damages done to any equipment that occurs while you are in the facility or using the equipment off-site.

Parking

With the exception of the loading and unloading of Advanced Checkout equipment, student parking is restricted to the parking lots west of the main studio building and north of the prop barn. Projects may park for loading and unloading no longer than 30 minutes in the two designated parking spots next to the door leading into the student building (FSSS). The remainder of the spaces next the building are reserved for full-time staff members. Failure to follow prescribed LDS MPS parking policy will result in suspension of access. The LDS MPS maintains the right to change parking policy according to their needs.

Class Access

For students who require access to the MPS for class attendance, a list must be submitted to the Media Arts Assistant/Projects Coordinator during the first week of each semester by the course instructor, or the students will not gain access at the gate. Once the list has been submitted to MPS Security, the student attending class will only need to give the guard their name and they will be given a visitor pass to be worn the while at the MPS. When you leave, give your pass back to the security guard.
